In this guide you will learn how to assign specific areas to new or existing users.
Instead of picking devices one by one, you can give a user access to whole areas. The user then has access to the assigned areas and to all the devices inside them, so a device added to the area later is covered automatically.
Assigning areas
Area assignment is done on the third step of the user creation wizard, "Devices". The same step appears when you edit an existing user.
Under "Include" select "Specific", then click "Assign areas". Tick the areas in the "Available areas" list and move them across to "Selected areas" with the arrow buttons between the two lists. The number next to "Assign areas" shows how many areas are currently selected.
If the list is long, use the search field above each list, or pick one of the area filters next to "Filters" to narrow it down.
Areas and devices are not an either or choice. The same user can be given whole areas under "Assign areas" and individual devices under "Assign devices".
Note: "Specific" is available only for roles that can be limited to a subset of devices. If the role you selected on the previous step always has access to all devices, "All devices" stays selected and cannot be changed.
