In this guide you will learn how to set up Intelligent pump control in Leanheat® Monitor, by creating a Critical point data relay and configuring the master ECL310 controller that uses it. For an explanation of what Intelligent pump control does and how the critical point is chosen, see Introduction to Intelligent pump control.
Before you start
The master controller must be an ECL Comfort 310 with application A333.3, application version 3, connected with the ECL connection type. The relayed value is written to register 10412.
Each source side controller must provide differential pressure value as a virtual measurement or a configurable input in Leanheat® Monitor (for example supply pressure minus return pressure).
Up to 20 source devices can be connected to one relay.
Creating the relay
Navigate to the "Admin" tab and select "Data Relays".
Click "Create data relay".
Enter a name for the data relay and choose the "Device - Critical point" relay type.
Set the "Readings period" (how often the sources are read and the master is updated). The readings period can be from 10 seconds to 24 hours.
Select the target device (the master ECL310).
Select one or more source devices. For each source choose whether the value comes from a "Virtual measurement" or a "Configurable input" and pick the one that holds the differential pressure.
Click "Apply" and then "Save data relay" in the top right corner.
Advanced Options
Under "Advanced Options" you can fine tune how the relayed value behaves:
"Smoothing": a filter coefficient that dampens fluctuations of the relayed value. It must be at least 0.1 and lower than 1. The value changes by this fraction of the difference on each readings period.
"Min Value": a minimum threshold for the source values. Source values below the threshold are filtered out and the lowest remaining value is relayed. The lowest value you can enter is 0.1.
Configuring the master controller
The endpoint control is configured in the device settings of the master controller, in the "Diff. Pressure Control" menu:
"dP Set Master": the base desired differential pressure at the pumps. This is also the fallback value the pump control returns to when the relayed endpoint value is missing, so set it to the pressure the pumps must deliver on their own.
"Press. diff., desired - dPS": the desired differential pressure at the critical point. The received lowest value (dPS) is controlled towards this setpoint.
"Tn dP End": the response time of the endpoint control (I-control). OFF disables the endpoint control.
"Nz dP End": neutral zone around the endpoint setpoint. While the received value is inside the neutral zone the control output is not changed.
"dP Master Max. Pressure" and "dP Master Min. Pressure": the maximum and minimum desired differential pressure for the main pump control. The minimum should not be set lower than "Press. diff., desired - dPS" when the remote point control is used.
"End point Alarm delay": raises an alarm if the endpoint value has been absent for longer than the set time. In Leanheat Monitor this is shown as the "dP - endpoint missing" alarm.
Reading the application diagram
On the Application tab of the master controller the relay and its settings are shown directly in the diagram:
S9 and S10 are the supply and return pressure sensors at the pumps. Their difference is the pump differential pressure.
dPM is the measured differential pressure at the master (S9 - S10). The blue value in parentheses next to it is the current desired value calculated by the controller. It stays between "dP Master Min. Pressure" and "dP Master Max. Pressure".
dPS is the lowest endpoint differential pressure received through the critical point data relay. The blue value in parentheses next to it is the endpoint setpoint, "Press. diff., desired - dPS".
The underlined label (dPM or dPS) shows which value the controller is currently controlling on. When the endpoint control is active, dPS is underlined; when the endpoint value is missing or the endpoint control is disabled, the controller falls back to dPM with the "dP Set Master" setpoint.
The signal symbol next to the pump speed indicator (M3) shows that the critical point data relay is active and the controller is taking the differential pressure from the remote side.
